First Lego League is a international competition started inn 1998, by Dean Kamen of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), and the owner of the LEGO Group Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen. It is a powerful program that engages children in playful and meaningful learning while helping them discover the fun in science and technology through the FIRST LEGO League experience. It is currently taking place in more than 80 countries.

FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
